In one of the most exciting games of the season, the Carolina Panthers beat the Atlanta Falcons 51-38 to improve to 2-2 on the year, while the Falcons fall to 1-3. The Panthers won on the arm of Cam Newton and the legs of DeAngelo Williams. The Falcons have now lost two straight and are now 0-1 in conference.

Late in the 4th quarter the Falcons had a chance to get the ball back and drive for the game winning score. When their third onside kick attempt in a row was recovered by the Panthers the game was pretty much sealed. With no timeouts remaining and down 44-38 the Panthers could run out the clock. The clock ran down to 3 seconds and the Panthers called time out.

When play resumed the Panthers came back on the field and to everyone's surprise they weren't in the "victory" formation, instead they were in 4-Wide Shotgun formation, the Falcons defense was confused and had no clue where to line up. The ball was snapped and Newton threw a deep middle post to a wide open Johnny Knox for the TD as time expired.

After the game Coach Locker was asked about the pass as time expired, he said;" You can pretty much bet next time we play these guys they are going to pay. They better go ahead and sign their life insurance polices right now. If they want to play dirty, we will play dirty." He went on to say that this only makes their rivalry more intense than it already is and he can't wait for their next game in Week 14.
